Ministry of Health: Statistics of Maternal Mortality Reduced

The Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan has clarified the allegations of registration of six cases of maternal deaths this January. This information was the subject of extensive discussions in social networks.

In response to an inquiry by the agency Turan, the Ministry of Health explained that the concept of "maternal mortality" includes deaths during pregnancy and childbirth and for 42 days after termination of pregnancy.

For the past 6 years, the Ministry of Health has had a special commission investigating the death and complications during pregnancy, childbirth and for 42 days after pregnancy.

The results of investigations into the case of death were sent to the prosecutor's office.

In 2015, 23 deaths were recorded, and in January this year there were 6. About 300 mothers managed to get out of the critical condition.

Analytical studies of the Ministry of Health show that the statistics of maternal mortality is reduced.

The deaths, along with medical malpractice and errors, were caused by the patients themselves and their families.

The causes of complications during childbirth are delayed registration of women becoming pregnant, not carrying out the due exams and analyses, and delayed access to a doctor. -0-
