Syrian Kurds declare independence
The Cizre Province, located in the north of Syria and populated mainly by Kurds, declared its independence, the Turkish media reported.
Thus, on January at the meeting of separatists held in Amud was created an interim government. The area will be managed by "the president and government of 22 ministers." At the same time , a new formation will have three official languages: Arabic, Kurdish, and Assyrian. Key positions will be distributed on a parity basis between these ethnic groups in proportion to the population.
"President" of Cizre is elected Ekrem Heso (Kurd) , Vice-Presidents: Elizabeth Dzhevriye (Assyrian), and Ezem Hussein (Arab.)
Following the Cizre region, it is expected that the Afrin and Cobani regiosn will also declare their independence.
Analysts point out that this is a very worrying trend and especially for Turkey, which has 20 million Kurdish population. After the de facto independence of Iraqi Kurds in Kirkuk, the indeopendence of the Cizre Kurds could provoke bloodshed, as well as provoke the Kurds in Turkey to the same step. -05D-
