The court again refused to transfer Gubad Ibadoglu to house arrest
Baku/10.01.24/Turan: On January 10, the Baku Court of Appeal considered a complaint against the refusal to transfer arrested economist Gubad Ibadoglu to house arrest. The court rejected the complaint, leaving in force the decision of the Narimanov district court, lawyer Shahla Humbatova told Turan. The petition was related to the fact that six months have passed since Ibadoglu's arrest, but no investigative actions are being conducted with him. At the same time, Ibadoglu's health is getting worse in the pre-trial detention center.
The lawyer expressed regret that the courts reject the requests to transfer Ibadoglu to house arrest and to send him to a medical institution. According to the lawyer, the investigation objects to this. On July 24 of this year, the Narimanov District Court of Baku arrested Gubad Ibadoglu, chairman of the Azerbaijan Democracy and Prosperity Party and a well-known economist, for 3 months and 26 days. He was accused of selling counterfeit money (Article 204.3.1 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan), as well as 167-3.1 (storage and distribution of extremist materials).
A number of countries and international organizations, including the U.S. State Department, U.S. senators and congressmen, have called for Ibadoglu's release.-16D06-
