The court did not transfer Tofik Yagublu to house arrest
Baku/09.01.24/Truan: Today, the Narimanov District Court of Baku considered a petition for the transfer of arrested opposition politician Tofik Yagublu under house arrest. According to lawyer Agil Laidj, there are no material or procedural grounds for keeping Tofik Yagublu under arrest. "The accusation is not based on material evidence." "Yagublu has a permanent residence in Baku, is a well-known person in society, his personality does not pose a public danger, he is a veteran of the Karabakh war," Laidj said. However, the court will not satisfy the petition and the defense will file an appeal. Yagublu himself linked the arrest to his political activities, noting that he had already been arrested 4 times.
* Yagublu was arrested on December 14 on the basis of falsified charges of fraud and illegal document production. Previously, the politician was repeatedly subjected to criminal and administrative prosecution. International organizations have recognized him as a prisoner of conscience.-21B30/06-
