The Court of Appeal did not release the former diplomat
On July 29, the Baku Court of Appeal, chaired by Hasan Ahmedov, rejected a complaint against the arrest of former diplomat Emin Ibrahimov. According to lawyer Bahruz Bayramov, Emin Ibrahimov has been on hunger strike as a sign of illegal arrest for 6 days.
"At the trial, he stated that he was under pressure to stop his hunger strike. Emin also stated that he was slandered, there is no evidence of his guilt. He has not seen and does not know the person whom the investigation considers to be the victim," the lawyer said.
Bayramov said he would appeal the decision of the Court of Appeal to the European Court of Human Rights.
In turn, another lawyer, Agil Laidj, said that Emin is not allowed to meet or talk on the phone with his relatives.
Recall that on July 24, Emin Ibrahimov was charged with stabbing Kamal Shukurov, a resident of the village of Garachukhur (Articles 126.2.4, intentional harm to health with the use of weapons) and 221.1 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code.
"Emin describes the incident as follows: when he was walking to his home near the “khalglar Dostlugu” metro station, he was attacked by an unknown man and began tearing his clothes. Immediately after that, he was detained by plainclothes policemen and taken to the 24th police department of the Nizami district," the lawyer said. The Nizami District Court has chosen a preventive measure for Emina Ibragimova for a period of 4 months.
* Ex-diplomat Emin Ibrahimov was in the diplomatic service in 2007-2020. From 2012 to 2016, he worked at the Azerbaijani Embassy in the United States, from 2016 to 2019 – at the diplomatic mission of Azerbaijan in Uruguay.
On March 13, 2020, Emin Ibrahimov submitted his resignation to the Foreign Ministry in protest against the suppression of suffrage and freedoms in the country and retired from diplomatic activity. After that, he criticized the Azerbaijani authorities for violations of citizens' rights and falsifications, speaking in the media and social networks.
