The ECHR ordered the Azerbaijani government to pay 75 thousand euros to 38 applicants
Baku/13.04.23/Turan: On April 13, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) announced 4 decisions on 38 complaints from Azerbaijan, obliging the government to pay compensation to the applicants for 75 thousand euros.
The decisions are based on reaching amicable agreements between the parties and the government's willingness to pay compensation, Khalid Agaliyev, head of the ECHR Verdicts monitoring group for Azerbaijan, told Turan.
In the case of Huseynov and Others v. Azerbaijan, six applicants – Fuzuli Huseynov, Ramid Nagiyev, Ravan Ismailov, Alifaga Abdullayev, Ramzi Shikhaliyev and Matanat Makhmarzayeva, complained of violations of freedom of assembly and fair trial.
In different years, they were detained at protest actions. According to the settlement agreement, the government undertook to pay each of the applicants 2,850 euros.
In the case of Umman Safarov and Others v. Azerbaijan, the applicants complained of a violation of the right to a fair trial and personal inviolability.
The government has pledged to pay 2,250 euros to Ahsan Nurizada, a member of the Muslim Unity Movement, and 1,250 euros each to 19 other applicants.
Umman Safarov himself, a member of the NIDA movement, was arrested in Ganja for 15 days in 2017 on charges of disobeying the police.
In the case of Shahlar Hasanov and Others v. Azerbaijan, the applicants complained of a violation of the right to a fair trial and personal inviolability.
According to the settlement agreement reached, the government should pay Aliyev 1,250 euros, and Huseynov and Hasanov 2,250 euros each.
Aliyev was arrested in 2019 after he distributed video materials on social networks about the demolition of unkempt graves at the Khirdalan cemetery and the sale of these plots to other persons.
In the case of Usuf Abulov v. Azerbaijan, he and eight other applicants complained of violations of freedom of assembly and personal inviolability. The parties reached a settlement agreement, according to which the government undertook to pay 4150 euros to Abulov and religious activist Rovshan Ahmedli, and 2850 euros to the other 7 applicants. ---0---
