The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has ordered Azerbaijan to pay nearly 1.7 million euros to applicants
On January 14, the European Court of Human Rights announced a new ruling on cases from Azerbaijan related to violations of citizens' property rights. In particular, a verdict was issued in the case "Ismail Bagvanov and Others v. Azerbaijan." This case involved complaints from 14 individuals who alleged that their homes were demolished during the construction of the so-called "Winter Park" in Baku. The applicants claimed violations of their property rights and their right to a fair trial.
The Court found that the property rights of all the applicants had been violated. Additionally, the rights to a fair trial were found to have been violated for four of the applicants. The ECHR ruled that all applicants should receive compensation for material damages, ranging from 12,000 to 370,000 euros, totaling 1,693,892 euros. Furthermore, four applicants will receive 4,700 euros each for moral damages. In addition, the Court ordered a payment of 692 euros to all applicants collectively for postal and other expenses.
