The European Parliament rejects a statement by Azerbaijani MP
The European Parliament will take a decision on sending observers for the presidential elections in Azerbaijan in September, said Marjory van den Broeke, the head of the press service of the European Parliament, in his interview with "Radio Azadliq."
He denied the reports of the list of countries where elections will be monitored by MEPs. According to him, there is a list of countries where in the second half of the year will be elections.
"A week ago, members of parliament discussed which countries should be monitored. However, no decision was taken on any country. It can be adopted by the President of the Parliament and the leaders of the political groups in September," said Broeke.
According to him, the decision on election monitoring are accepted twice a year.
Asking the question whether there was a proposal to stop monitoring of elections in Azerbaijan, Broeke gave negative answer.
A member of the Parliament of Azerbaijan, Elkhan Suleymanov, told some media that the European Parliament excluded Azerbaijan from the list of countries in need of monitoring the elections, because the situation in the country is quite democratic.—06D-
