The Events in Ismayilli Not Investigated

The Court of the Nasimi district of Baku on March 2 did not satisfy the complaint from Vasif Ibragimov, who was arrested for taking part in the events in Ismayilli and requested a change of his arrest to house arrest.

According to his lawyer Navai Abbasov, he intends to file an appeal to change the measure of restraint.

As for the investigation to the Ismayilli events, they are hardly maintained and are in a frozen state, the attorney said.

He also said that, two weeks ago, the new chief executive of Ismayilli Mirdamet Sadigov met with the population of the area and the parents of the arrested and asked them to give him time - 15 days. He promised that he would do everything possible to provide a fair trial of those arrested on these events, as well as appeal to the President and the Prosecutor.

The lawyer said that at the present time for taking part in the Ismayilli 16 people were arrested.

At the same time, we failed to get any information about the investigation of the events specified in the General Prosecutor's Office.

As you know, on January 23-24 riots occurred in Ismayilli, the reason for which was the conflict of the Chirag hotel administrator Emil Shamdinov and his friend Elmeddin Mamedov, who, being drunk, crashed a local taxi driver's car and began to insult the population of the district.

In the present case, two oppositionists - Tofig Yagublu and Ilgar Mamedov, and residents of Ismayilli Mirkazym Abdullayev, Elshan Ismayilov and 10 more are in custody. They are charged under articles 233 (organization of and participation in actions that led to the breach of public order) and 315.2 (resistance to authority).
