The Investigative Committee of Russia on the Investigation of the AZAL Plane Crash

The Investigative Committee of Russia continues its investigation into the criminal case regarding the crash of an AZAL plane near the city of Aktau on December 25. According to a statement from the Investigative Committee, specialists from the Interstate Aviation Committee are working together with the Russian authorities to examine the data retrieved from the plane's black boxes at the Brazilian Aviation Accident Investigation Center (SENIPA).

The investigation is analyzing the communications between the air traffic controllers in Grozny, Makhachkala, and Mineralnye Vody with the aircraft's captain. A comprehensive aviation and technical examination has been appointed. The condition of all the aircraft's systems, as well as material evidence, is being studied. The investigation is considering all possible versions of the causes of the tragedy, the statement says.

The plane, operating the Baku-Grozny flight, had 67 people on board. As a result of the crash on December 25, 38 passengers died, and 29 people survived.

It became known on January 7 that the black box data decoding had been completed. On January 16, the text of the communications between the aircraft's captain and the air traffic controllers in Grozny, Rostov, and Aktau appeared online. However, Russian authorities have not confirmed the authenticity of the printed communication records and have declined to comment on them.
