The Musavat party condemned the pressure on independent lawyers
Baku / 20.11.17 / Turan: Musavat Party issued a statement condemning the pressure on independent lawyers. "The Azerbaijani authorities continue to eliminate democratic institutions, continue repressions against political activists, journalists, and civil society activists.
A new wave of this policy has now touched upon independent lawyers known for their free defense of political prisoners - Nemat Kerimli, Fahraddin Mehdiyev, Yalchin Imanov, Agil Lahidge and Elchin Sadigov," the party's statement reads.
Against these lawyers disciplinary proceedings have been initiated in the Bar Association, and they are threatened with expulsion from this body. Thus, the ruling regime seeks to deprive political prisoners of the possibility of normal protection.
The authorities fully controlled the organs of the court, and the prosecutor's office, and now they want to completely undermine the Bar and the Bar. The country is in the process of completing the complete destruction of the justice system.
"Musavat" condemns the authorities' total offensive against lawyers and calls on society to counteract this lawlessness. The party also calls on international organizations, democratic states, diplomatic missions in Azerbaijan to demonstrate a clear and resolute position with regard to plans to eliminate the legal system in the country. -06D--
