The name of the new head of UNESCO will be known on Friday
Baku/10.10.17/Turan: The first round of the election of the new Director-General of UNESCO, held in Paris on Monday, did not bring results: none of the candidates received the absolute majority required for the victory. Representatives of seven countries apply for the post of the new head of UNESCO: Azerbaijani ambassador to Russia Polad Bulbuloglu; the head of the Vietnamese National Commission for UNESCO, Suan Shon Pham, and the ex-minister for the family and society of Egypt, Mushira Khattab.
Also, a diplomat from Qatar Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Qawari is fighting for a high position; representing China Deputy Director-General of UNESCO Qian Tang; the adviser of the Ministry of Culture of Lebanon Vera El-Khuri Lakey and the former Minister of Culture of France Audrey Azule.
According to an informed source of RIA Novosti, the top three favorites for the first day of voting included candidates from Qatar, France and Egypt. The next stage of voting will be held on Tuesday. It is expected that the name of the new leader will be announced before October 13.
The approval of the candidate who won the election will take place during the 39th session of the General Conference of UNESCO, which will be held later in the autumn. -02D-
