The opposition party calls to boycott a referendum
Classic Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (CPFPA) issued a statement in connection with the appointment of referendum on constitutional amendments on September 26. The authors of the statement believe that the proposed amendments to the Constitution, expanding the already vast powers of the president, serve for the perpetuating the reign of the current government. In addition, there is no real separation of powers: legislative, and judicial authorities have turned into an appendage of the executive. The document's authors believe that the purpose of the proposed changes is to facilitate the transfer of power within the family. Under such circumstances, the CPFPA sees no sense to participate in the referendum, demands to cancel it, and calls on the people to boycott the voting. -06D-
