The prosecutor's office investigates a report on beating a police officer by a drunk deputy
Baku/30.07.21/Turan: Law enforcement agencies are engaged in investigating the beating of a police officer by Eldaniz Salimov, a deputy of the Milli Majlis from the 55th Khachmaz electoral district.
The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs told Turan that the incident occurred on midnight July 29 at the facility of a Salimov's relative in the village of Nabran, the Khachmaz region.
It should be reminded that "Eldaniz Salimov expressed his dissatisfaction with police officer's demand to close the facility in line with quarantine regime requirements.
The case materials were sent to the investigative department of the Prosecutor General's Office,"the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted.
According to local sources, the drunk deputy inflicted bodily injuries to Zaur Mirzoev, an employee of the Khachmaz region police department.
In turn, deputy chairman of the disciplinary commission of Milli Majlis, Fazail Agamaly said that the behavior of the deputy would be discussed by the commission. "The incident is already being investigated by the Prosecutor General's Office. Results of the investigation will be presented to the leadership of Milli Majlis. According to the current legislation, within 7 days the management will inform the disciplinary commission which, after discussing, will make an appropriate decision, " Agamaly said.
Note that that a deputy cannot be brought to criminal responsibility with the parliament's consent.
The Prosecutor General's Office confirmed the information about sending the case materials to the investigative department.—03B06-

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) today issued five rulings on applications from Azerbaijan. The case of "Afgan Mammadov v. Azerbaijan" concerned the complainant's exclusion from the Bar Association. Mammadov was expelled based on a complaint filed by a colleague, which he considered unjust. The ECHR ruled that Mammadov's rights had been violated and ordered Azerbaijan to pay him €5,000 in compensation for moral damage and €1,000 to cover legal costs.

During the ongoing COP29 climate conference in Baku on November 14, a group of activists staged a protest condemning Russia's aggression against Ukraine. The activists also denounced countries that supply oil and weapons to nations waging aggressive wars. The protest featured placards with slogans such as: "From fossil fuels to peace!", "End war crimes!", "Punish the aggressor!", and "Phase out fossil fuel use to achieve peace!" among others.
