The rapporteurs of the PACE Monitoring Committee travel to Baku
PACE rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee, Pedro Agramunt (Spain) and Joseph Gresh (Malta), will pay a visit to Azerbaijan on June 10-14. They will familiarize with the implementation of PACE resolution on Azerbaijan and the country's commitments to the Council of Europe.
It became known from sources in the Council of Europe, the co-rapporteurs will have meetings with officials, including the heads of law enforcement agencies, and representatives of civil society in Azerbaijan. During the visit, the co-rapporteurs are planning to visit and regions.
On January 23 PACE adopted a resolution on Azerbaijan's fulfillment of its obligations to the Council of Europe on the basis of the report of Agramunt and Gresh. It calls on the Azerbaijani authorities to respect freedom of assembly and expression, to remove obstacles to the registration and the activity of NGOs, to facilitate the registration of international NGOs, to solve the problem of alleged political prisoners and others.—06D--
