The richest Azerbaijani in Russia has left the post of head of Lukoil

Baku/21.04.22/Turan: President of the Lukoil oil company, Vagit Alekperov, resigned as president of the company and refused to be a member of the Board of Directors,  the message on the company's website.

Alekperov owned a 3.12% stake in Lukoil", he was also the beneficiary of another 5.43% stake in the company, without having the right to vote on them.

In the ranking of the richest businessmen in Russia according to Forbes for April 2021, Alekperov ranked fourth with a fortune of about $ 25 billion.

After the introduction of Western sanctions in connection with the military aggression against Ukraine, Alekperov lost more than 10 billion dollars.

Alekperov was born on September 1, 1950 in Baku. He started as an ordinary engineer at oil enterprises in Baku. Then he moved to Russia and worked in Siberia. Became CEO of "Kogalymneftegaz" (1987-1990), and then the first deputy minister of the oil and gas industry of the USSR (1991-1992).

In 1992, he founded the largest oil company in Russia, LUKOIL.
