The Supreme Court postponed consideration of the complaint of the leader of the Islamic Party
Baku / 22.11.17 / Turan: Consideration of the cassation appeal of the leader of the Islamic Party of Azerbaijan (IMA) Movsum Samedov for deteriorating conditions of detention and transfer to Gobustan prison, was postponed to December 6.
The reason for this was the absence of a lawyer. Samedov's rights were defended by the well-known lawyer Yalchin Imanov. However, on November 20, the Bar Association suspended his powers after the appeal of the Penitentiary Service. Thus, Samedov was left without a defender.
The Supreme Court appointed a meeting on December 6 and by this time Samedov should be found a new lawyer, a relative of the convict was informed.
M. Samedov was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment. He was detained in 2011 on charges of illegal possession of weapons, an attempt to change the constitutional order and commit other crimes. The European Court of Human Rights began communications on his case.
On October 9, 2014, he was transferred from the Garadagh court from jail N.12 to Gobustan prison for a period of 2 years. Back in the colony number 12, he returned on November 28, 2016. On the same day he was put in a punishment cell for 15 days. Following this, the administration of the institution submitted an idea of the transfer of Samedov again to the Gobustan prison. On June 14, 2017, the Garadag court granted this representation. On July 17, the appeal was not granted. Movsum Samedov is recognized as a political prisoner.-06D--
