The Supreme Court rejected the decision to return millions of manats of confiscated property to Akif Chovdarov
Baku/25.04.23/Turan: ON Tuesday, the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan granted the cassation protest of the Prosecutor General's Office against the decision of the Baku Court of Appeal on the release from confiscation of the property of the former head of the Department of the Ministry of National Security, General Akif Chovdarov and an employee of this department, Colonel Salim Mammadov.
In December last year, the Baku Court of Appeal decided to return to these persons the confiscated real estate for about 30 million manat – about 15 million euros (apartments, mansions, country houses, land plots, etc.).
Chovdarov and Mammadov were arrested in 2015 on charges of unlawful imprisonment, embezzlement, extortion by threats, etc. Subsequently, Chovdarov was sentenced to 12 years in prison, and Mammadov to 11 years. Nevertheless, Chovdarov was pardoned by Ilham Aliyev in 2020, and Mammadov – in 2022. ---03B06---

Activist Nijat Ibrahim, who was detained in Baku pre-trial detention center-1, inflicted numerous wounds on himself on November 20 in protest against unjustified criminal prosecution, his wife Parvin Ibrahim told Turan. According to her, on November 21, her husband called her and informed her that the day before he had inflicted incised wounds on himself with a piece of mirror. In particular, he cut his throat and ears.
