The US Embassy commented on the criticism of the President of Azerbaijan
Baku/17.04.21/Turan: The US Embassy to Azerbaijan commented on the criticism of the President of Azerbaijan against Washington, expressed on April 13.
Asked by VOA about the US response to this criticism by President Aliyev about the U.S. position and role in the region, the Embassy stated the following:
"The United States deeply values its longstanding partnership with Azerbaijan, which is based on three equally important areas: democracy and human rights, energy and economic ties, and close security cooperation. Since 1992, the United States has provided more than $1.5 billion in assistance to Azerbaijan, including $6.6 million to support Azerbaijan's response to the immediate and longer-term effects of COVID-19.
The United States will continue to work with the sides as a Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group to foster reconciliation and achieve a lasting political settlement to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The United States continues to see its partnership with Azerbaijan as an important relationship in a vital region. We will continue to identify opportunities for greater engagement on issues of mutual benefit to both countries", - reads the Embassy comment.
Recall that speaking at ADA University on April 13, Ilham Aliyev criticized official Washington for the lack of a position on the Karabakh settlement and the imbalance in relations with Azerbaijan and Armenia. In particular, he recalled that Secretary of State Blinken called the Prime Minister of Armenia, but did not call Baku. -0-
