U.S. Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary for International Affairs and Chief Diplomatic Officer Alan Bersin will visit Azerbaijan on May 21-23 to participate in the Azerbaijan State Customs Committee’s Inaugural International Network of Customs Universities’ (INCU) Global Conference to be held in Baku. Mr. Bersin will be deliver remarks on “Security: Lines and Flows: The Beginning and End of Borders. A Theory of Action for Border Management and Security in a Global Age.” —06D—

The international organization "Women Press Freedom" condemned the arrest of journalist Shahnaz Beylergizi in Azerbaijan. Shamshad Aga, editor of the "Argument.az" website, has been found guilty in the Meydan TV case of smuggling (Article 206.3.2 of the Criminal Code) and sentenced to two months and one day in detention. The decision was made on February 6 by the Khatai District Court of Baku, as reported by Turan, citing his lawyer, Shahla Humbatova.
