Washington D.C./11.07.23/Turan:   The State Department on Monday reacted to reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin had met with Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin in the Kremlin after the paramilitary group’s aborted mutiny last month.

"There are no heroes in the struggle between the two of them," Spokesperson Matthew Miller told a daily briefing when responding to TURAN's questions. "These are both people who have committed atrocities or ordered the commission of atrocities in Ukraine," he added.

According to Kremlin spokesperson Dmirty Perkov, a June 29 meeting between Putin and Prigozhin lasted nearly three hours. The Wagner commanders were then offered “further options for employment and further combat use,” Peskov was quoted as saying, adding that the paramilitaries were “ready to continue to fight” for Russia.

Per State Department's Miller, how the entire Prigozhin episode shakes out "still remains to be seen."

"That was a new development and I suspect there will continue to be new developments," he added.
