Turkey Develops Domestic Optics for Bayraktar
Baku / 07.11.20 / Turan: Turkey's national technological breakthrough has made another important step in mobilization. Bayraktar TB2 SIHA (Armed Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) developed by Baykar at the national level has successfully conducted its first test firing with the CATS electro-optical reconnaissance, surveillance and targeting system developed by Aselsan, Turkish newspaper Milliyet reported.
Thus, the Canadian embargo on the transfer of optical technologies to Turkey imposed in early October due to the use of drones in Azerbaijan's operation to liberate the occupied territories did not prevent the development of unmanned vehicles in Turkey.
Bayraktar TB2, taking off from the Baykar Flight Training Center with MAM-L (Mini Smart Ammunition) training ammunition on wings developed by Roketsan, successfully fired the laser-guided CATS camera system.
A MAM-L with a laser seeker fired from a Bayraktar TB2 hit a target located on Target Island in Saros Bay with CATS laser markings at high altitude and long range.
As part of test flights, the capabilities of CATS to capture and track high-speed targets were tested. The national video camera has successfully passed all tests.
On October 5, Canadian Foreign Minister François-Philippe Champagne suspended permits for the export of technologies used for military purposes to Turkey. He made the statement after reports on the use of Canadian technologies in the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. —0—
