"Ultimately Ukrainians Will Prevail" — U.S. Ambassador To NATO
Washington D.C./14.02.23/Turan: The U.S. ambassador to NATO on Monday said her country is "committed" to getting Ukraine "everything that it needs" to defend itself from Russia’s brutal and barbaric war.
"We believe that ultimately the Ukrainians will prevail," Ambassador Julianne Smith said during a special online briefing organized by the State Department's Brussels Media Hub, TURAN's Washington correspondent reports.
"We’ve just been incredibly impressed by the performance of the Ukrainian military forces each and every day that this war has taken place," she said.
In the meantime, she went on to add, "nothing in war is linear... We've seen periods during this war when Ukrainians have had more success, some days the Russians have more success."
"We will continue most importantly to get the Ukrainians the support that they need. so that they can prevail on the ground," she added.
Asked by TURAN's U.S. correspondent whether the U.S. would be willing to allow individual countries’ contributions of F16s to Ukraine, Amb Smith said, "we leave that to each sovereign nation to determine how they want to provide assistance and what type of assistance to Ukraine; that is left in the hands of each individual capital."
Smith's comments came just ahead of today's Ukraine Contact Group which the Ambassador described as "another important opportunity to hear directly from the Ukrainians about what their security requirements are and how allies are willing and able to step forward and address those particular requirements."
