U.S. Hopes For Continued Dialogue And Constructive Atmosphere Between Azerbaijan, Armenia — State Department

Washington on Friday reiterated its hope for continued dialogue and constructive atmosphere between Azerbaijan and Armenia, TURAN's U.S. correspondent reports.

"We certainly hope that the dialogue and constructive atmosphere between the two countries will continue as we continue to support diplomacy to lead to a lasting peace and resolving issues between the two countries," State Department spokesperson Ned Price told a daily press briefing when responding to TURAN's questions.

He reminded that the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, when they were last together, agreed to expedite their negotiations, to organize another meeting in the coming weeks. "They both expressed their appreciation to the U.S. side for hosting that ministerial," he recalled.

TURAN's Washington correspondent asked Price whether the topic of Karabakh conflict was discussed during the French President's recent visit to Washington and if the U.S. was willing to pick up from where the Europeans have left off now that the Brussels meeting is not happening, Price left it to the White House to speak to any potential discussion of Armenia and Azerbaijan.

"But as you know, the United States has been very much engaged with the parties to help bring about a peaceful future for the South Caucasus region," he added.

"We’ve held – we’ve convened now two trilateral meetings between Armenia and Azerbaijan – Secretary Blinken has. He’s continued to be in telephonic communication with the parties as well," Price reminded.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken on November 7 hosted Foreign Ministers Jeyhun Bayramov and Ararat Mirzoyan in Washington D.C. where the ministers agreed to expedite negotiations towards comprehensive and lasting peace, as the State Department put it.
