US official notes importance of human rights and freedoms in Azerbaijan

"Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs David Hale met yesterday in Washington, D.C., with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov. During the meeting, the two discussed regional challenges and opportunities, with Under Secretary Hale underscoring the importance of preventing further violence and making progress in the OSCE Minsk Group process toward a peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict," State Department"s spokesperson Morgan Ortagus announces on Thursday in Washington, TURAN"s correspondent reports.
"The Under Secretary and Foreign Minister also discussed longstanding cooperation between the United States and Azerbaijan in the areas of security, energy, and economic growth"
During the meeting, Hale also outlined Administration priorities on a range of issues, including sanctions policy.
"The Under Secretary emphasized the United States" support for the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms in Azerbaijan," she added.

On November 28, another hearing took place in the case of public activist Ilhamiz Guliyev. During the proceedings, the court reviewed a response from the 28th Police Station of the Yasamal District in Baku. At the previous hearing, the defense had requested that the court obtain footage from the surveillance cameras at this police station, where Guliyev was taken on December 4 of last year. However, the police response stated that the video footage had not been preserved.
