U.S. Sends New Military Aid To Ukraine Worth $200 Million
The Biden administration on Monday announced a new security assistance package for Ukraine worth approximately $200 million, TURAN's Washington correspondent reports.
The latest arms package, the 44th such tranche, includes air defense munitions, artillery rounds, anti-armor capabilities, and additional mine-clearing equipment.
"Every day, Russia is killing Ukrainian civilians and destroying civil infrastructure, while also weaponizing hunger and contributing to global food insecurity through its destruction of Ukraine’s civilian ports and grain infrastructure", Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement. " Russia started this war and could end it at any time by withdrawing its forces from Ukraine and stopping its brutal attacks. Until it does, the United States and our allies and partners will stand united with Ukraine, for as long as it takes," Blinken added.
Monday's announcement came as President Biden is seeking more than $24 billion in additional funding for Ukraine to fight off Russian invasion. In addition to security assistance, the U.S. has committed more than $110 billion in economic and humanitarian aid to Ukraine and funding for NATO allies.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that the administration is grateful for the bipartisan support for Ukraine thus far, adding, that the president is "confident that that support is going to continue as we work together to make sure that the Ukrainian people have everything that they need to continue to fight bravely for their freedom."
