Vugar Safarli was expelled from YAP
Baku/15.02.21/Turan: The former head of the State Media Support Fund, Vugar Safarli, was expelled from the New Azerbaijan Party and from his post as deputy chair of the Narimanov regional organization, according to the press service of the ruling YAP.
Vugar Safarli, who is under arrest, headed the State Media Support Fund for more than 10 years. In 2020, he was prosecuted in a criminal case of embezzlement in the Fund and was arrested on charges of embezzling funds in the construction of a house for journalists in Baku, as well as embezzling funds allocated for the development of the media.
During the investigation, about 6 million manats were seized from Safarli's bank account, which the prosecutor's office considers part of the stolen money. Safarli tried to appeal against his arrest, but the court did not release him under house arrest. -02D-

On Tuesday, trade union activist Afiyaddin Mammadov testified at the Baku Serious Crimes Court and linked his arrest to trade union activities. Mammadov recalled that after a protest by food delivery couriers in front of the Baku Police Headquarters on August 1, 2023, three trade union activists were arrested. So, on August 4, Elvin Mustafayev was arrested, and on the 11th, Ayhan Israfilov. Mammadov himself was also subjected to administrative arrest in August.
