«We Will Never Give Karabakh Up,» Serzh Sargsyan Benefits from Crisis
After the group of militants that had seized the police regiment in Yerevan surrendered, the Armenian authorities recognized that the country was on the brink of serious destabilization.
This was said by the Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan.
He acknowledged that the authorities were ready to conduct a military operation and destroy more than 20 armed militants, but this was avoided.
Sargsyan actually named the group Sasna Tsrer terrorists who tried to turn Yerevan to Beirut or Aleppo and urge Armenia to civil war. At the same time, he promised to conduct a thorough investigation into the causes of the incident, adding that Armenia needs fundamental reform.
Next Sargsyan apologized to reporters for the police violence and promised to punish those responsible.
Talking about ways of overcoming the crisis, Sargsyan promised to create the government of national consensus in the coming months.
In conclusion, Sargsyan commented on the belief spread in the Armenian society that the Armenian authorities have agreed to a phased version of the Karabakh conflict settlement, which implies liberation of territories around Karabakh without resolving its status.
"In the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh problem there will not be any one-sided concessions. It is excluded. Nagorno-Karabakh will never be part of Azerbaijan.
I have really devoted all my life to this issue. And in order to achieve an option acceptable for my people, I have always been ready to sacrifice not just any position, but also my own life," Sargsyan stated. -02D-
