Baku/10.29.21/Turan: By the Victory Day - November 8, Azerbaijan is expected to adopt the Amnesty Act. First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva will initiate the amnesty. Information about this has been circulated in the local media in recent days, but official structures do not confirm or deny it.
However, according to information available to Turan from sources close to the government, the law enforcement agencies of Azerbaijan have begun preparing a draft Amnesty and, in particular, defining articles of the Criminal Code, convicted under which will be released from punishment.
According to the Constitution of Azerbaijan, the Amnesty Act is adopted by the country's parliament. During the years of independence, there have been 12 amnesties in Azerbaijan.
The last time an amnesty was adopted in Azerbaijan was in May 2016 at the initiative of the wife of the President of Azerbaijan, Mehriban Aliyeva, who was then a member of parliament. Then the amnesty covered 10 thousand people. — 06D-
