A group of deputies appealed to President Ilham Aliyev with request to release the editor of "Khural" newspaper, Avaz Zeynally, on the occasion of National Press Day, celebrated annually on July 22.
MPs asked the head of state to take into account that Zeynally has been involved in journalism for more than 15 years as the head of the "Civil Solidarity" and "Khural" newspapers.
At the same time, deputies say that Zeynally "has always demonstrated a position to strengthen the state, always put national interests above his personal."
They expressed confidence that after the release, Zeynally can be useful for the country.
The appeal was signed by Ilyas Ismayilov, Agil Abbas, Fazil Gazanfaroghlu, and Iqbal Aghazadeh.
Zeynally was arrested in October 2011 on the complaint of the MP Gular Ahmadova, which accused him of extortion. However, the prosecution quickly fell apart, and the trial in the case of Zeynally turned into a farce. Soon the situation became even more comical, because Gular Ahmedova herself was arrested for swindle.—05D06-
