A Jewish center is being built in the capital of Azerbaijan and the Congress of Rabbis of Europe will be held here
Baku/04.07.23/Turan: According to official Azerbaijani sources reported by Jewish News Syndicate, construction of a Jewish cultural center is underway in Baku, located adjacent to the main city synagogue. The center is being funded by the Azerbaijani state and is expected to offer various facilities and services to the Jewish community.
The center is designed to house a Sunday Jewish school and provide courses for both adults and children. Additionally, it will include a kosher restaurant. President Ilham Aliyev generously donated a plot of land for the construction of the four-story building, as mentioned by Avraham Yakubov, the spiritual leader of the community of mountain Jews in Baku.
The construction is estimated to be completed by the end of 2024, further enhancing the cultural landscape for the Jewish community in Baku.
In another report by the same publication, the Conference of Rabbis of European Countries is set to convene in Baku. This significant gathering is expected to draw about 500 European rabbis from across the continent.
The central theme of the conference will revolve around discussions on freedom of religion and various matters concerning the activities of Jewish communities. As part of the event, participants will have the opportunity to visit the village of Krasnaya Sloboda, situated in the northern region of Azerbaijan, which has been the longstanding home of the mountain Jews for centuries.--0--
