Activist Mohyaddin Orujev arrested in drug case
Baku/16.12.23/Turan: Public activist Mohyaddin Orujev has been arrested on charges of drug trafficking, his family reported. The young man was detained on December 13, but the activist's family was not initially informed of his place of detention. Only many hours later it was confirmed that Orujev was being held in the Surakhani district police department as a suspect in a drug case.
On December 15, the court chose a preventive measure against him in the form of arrest for a period of 4 months. Orujev is charged under Article 234.4.3 (large-scale drug trafficking) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. He faces 5 to 12 years in prison. In October, Orujev was already arrested administratively for 30 days on charges of "disobeying the police."
After his release, he stated that the real reason for his arrest was his criticism of the authorities on social networks. Because of this, he was beaten and subjected to inhuman treatment by the police. Relatives believe that now the criminal case against Orujev has been fabricated in retaliation for this statement.—06B-
