Niyaməddin Əhmədov
Ali Karimli's bodyguard denies charges and claims torture
Baku/10.03.21/Turan: On March 10, the trial of the activist of the Popular Front Party Niyameddin Ahmedov continued in the Baku Serious Crimes Court. Media representatives were not allowed to attend the meeting. In his testimony, Ahmedov rejected allegations of financing terrorism and other charges.
If the talk is about “financing of terrorism”, then what was it? The indictment does not clarify this, according to the relatives of the defendant.
PFPA leader Ali Karimli also stated the absurdity of the accusations brought against Ahmedov. “On April 13, the Internet was turned off for me on the air. Niyameddin was one of the activists who came to our home worried about this.
After he left me, he was put under surveillance, on April 15, he was arrested in an administrative order, and then serious charges were brought forward. The goal was to bring charges against me. They beat Niyameddin to confess that he allegedly received money from Gabil Mammadov (an Azerbaijani political emigrant in Europe who sharply criticizes the Azerbaijani authorities) and passed it on to me,” Karimli said.
In fact, Niyameddin Ahmedov borrowed money from Gabil Mammadov, is his fellow citizen. “Using this circumstance, Niyameddin was brutally tortured to make him admit that this money was meant for me. Despite sophisticated and savage tortures, Niyameddin did not give false testimony,” Karimli said.
The next hearing is scheduled for March 19.
* On April 16, 2020, the Khatai District Court of Baku arrested Niyameddin Ahmedov for 30 days for violating quarantine. On April 28, he was taken out of the pre-trial detention center and subjected to severe torture, demanding to testify against Ali Karimli.
After the expiration of the administrative arrest, on May 16, Ahmedov was charged under Article 214-1 (financing of terrorism) of the Criminal Code and was arrested again. Human rights activists recognized Ahmedov as a political prisoner.
On January 18, 2021, new charges were brought against him – under the Article 233-1.1.2 of the Criminal Code (illegal manufacture, acquisition, storage, transportation, carrying and transfer or sale to another person of items, the inclusion of which in civil circulation is prohibited by law (excluded from civil circulation) and 28,281.2 (preparation for public appeals directed against the state, committed repeatedly by a group of persons).-16B06-

In 2017, the Sumgayit City Court ruled to evict the Aliyev family—refugees from Gubadli (Akper, Sarvinaz, Ramil, and two other family members)—from an illegally occupied apartment in the 12th microdistrict, Building 7A, Apartment 35. The court ordered the property be returned to its rightful owner, Samaya Aliyeva. However, the Ministry of Justice intervened, citing a presidential decree from July 1, 2004, which approved a state program for improving the living and working conditions of refugees. Under this directive, refugees without alternative housing cannot be evicted until they are provided with a replacement residence by the Executive Authority.
