Arrested Activist on Hunger Strike
Baku / 31.05.19 / Turan: Chairman of the Narimanov District Organization of the Popular Front Party (PFPA) Babek Hasanov started a hunger strike in Prison No. 6 on May 28, PFPA Deputy Chairman Gezal Bayramli told Turan.
"Babek Hasanov protests against pressure on convicts who communicate with him in the jail. Thus, Ahsan Nuruzadeh, an activist of the Muslim Unity Movement, was put in a punishment cell because he spoke with Babek Hasanov for 5 minutes. It was after this that Babek went on a hunger strike," said Bayramli.
In turn, the Public Relations Division of the Prison Service denied the information about Hasanov"s hunger strike.
"Babek Hasanov is not going on a hunger strike. The institution in which he is kept is of an open type and it is impossible to restrict the communication of prisoners there," a representative of the Prison Service told Turan. At the same time, the same source confirmed that Nuruzadeh fell into a punishment cell for "violation of discipline", and not for communicating with Babek Hasanov.
Recall that Babek Hasanov was arrested in May last year in a falsified case of "illegal" financing of the PFPA. The court sentenced him to three years in prison. He is recognized as a political prisoner. -03B06-
