Arrested another former head of the Ministry of Defense
Baku/23.02.22/Turan: On February 23, the Military Prosecutor's Office announced the arrest of the 6th high-ranking officer of the Ministry of Defense.
This is the former head of the procurement and supply department of the Ministry, Colonel Mahir Shirvanov. He was charged under articles 179.4 (misappropriation, theft, causing damage on a large scale), 341.2.1 (abuse of official position by a group of persons) and other articles of the Criminal Code.
It is noteworthy that on June 25, 2020, Colonel Shirvanov was awarded the medal "For the Motherland". The order of the head of state noted that the colonel was awarded this award for "special merits in the defense and preservation of the independence, territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan, distinction in the performance of official duties."
Shirvanov became the sixth Defense Ministry officer arrested for financial and other crimes over the past month. -02D-

President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has invited Azerbaijani economist and political prisoner Professor Gubad Ibadoglu to Strasbourg to attend the 2024 Sakharov Prize award ceremony.
