Niyaməddin Əhmədov
Arrested PFPA is not allowed to speak with family for 9 months
Baku/06.01.21/Turan: The former bodyguard of the leader of the Popular Front Party (PFPA) Ali Karimli - Niyameddin Ahmedov has not been given telephone conversations and meetings with family members for 9 months.
Ahmedov, who is kept in the pre-trial detention center, has once again applied to the court to ensure his rights to meet and telephone his relatives. The activist's father, Arif Ahmedov, said that the family has been unable to establish contact with him for 9 months.
“We have appealed to all addressees. The innocent young man was arrested, tortured, and now they are not even allowed to talk to his mother,” Arif Ahmedov said.
The attempts to get comments from the Penitentiary Service were futile.
On April 16, the Khatai district court arrested the PFPA activist Niyameddin Ahmedov for 30 days for violating quarantine and disobeying the police.
On April 28, he was taken from the detention center for the administratively arrested of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to an unknown place, where he was severely tortured. He was demanded to testify against Ali Karimli.
After the expiry of the term of administrative arrest, on May 16, Ahmedov was charged under Article 214-1 (financing of terrorism) of the Criminal Code and was arrested again. Human rights activists recognized N. Ahmedov as a political prisoner. —06D-
