At the trial in the case of Gabil Veliyev

Baku / 09.01.18 / Turan: A regular meeting was held in the Baku Serious Crimes Court under the chairmanship of Fikret Garibov on the case of the chief editor of the newspaper Gundelik Baku, Gabil Veliyev. He was arrested in December 2016 on suspicion of racketeering and using technical means to illegally obtain information. The hall was filled with relatives and friends of the accused, and Veliyev himself was placed in an "aquarium" - a soundproof room for prisoners.

Judge Fikret Garibov read out the names of judges, and the trial began with the interrogation of the victims. The victim Rasulov in the testimony stated that he had a problem with the object in 2013 that they could not share with his cousin: "My relative told me that he would complain about me to the newspaper Gundelik Baku and they would cause me big problems. I got agitated and went to one of the employees of the newspaper Rabil Huseynov, who brought me to a meeting with Gabil Veliyev. When we entered the office, I saw documents on his desk. Veliyev said that he would transfer them to law enforcement agencies and I will not be bothered, since my documents on the object are illegal and he will obtain the demolishing. He demanded from me $10000.

True, he offered to make peace with his cousin, but my cousin did not want, saying that we are not native. When we left the office, I told Rabil that I could pay only a thousand dollars and handed him 785 manats in the morning in the district. "

Asked by the prosecutor about the fate of the transferred money, the victim replied that in 5 months he accidentally saw Rabil and he said that he had given money to Gabil Veliyev. Gabil Veliyev himself said that he sees the victim for the first time.

Then the judge asked Rasulov if he had any demands, to which the victim replied that he wanted to return his money. The lawyers of the defendant hastily noticed that the problem would be solved.

The victim Ramiz Jabrailov, the former head of the Executive Power of the Lachin district, submitted to the court a written statement that he had no claims to the defendant and wants to punish the other perpetrators: "I do not know Gabil Veliyev and personally never saw him. He is not guilty and I have no requirements to him. I was harmed in the amount of 15000, which is fully reimbursed. Those who sent a journalist to me, ordered him, should be punished. They still hold positions. "

Asked by the prosecutor whether he confirms his testimony during the investigation, the victim confirmed. The next two victims, also former officials, Manafov Rashid and Sadigov Tofik also stated that they had no claims to the defendant.

Manafov said that he knows Veliyev since 2008, he was at the editorial office, where the editor-in-chief demanded that he have a thousand manat in order not to publish compromising information.

"First I paid 300 manats, because I did not have more, but then I repeatedly paid: once 200, and then another 100 manats. In general, I paid Veliyev 1,800 manat. Veliyev said that he would write about me an article where he would introduce me as a corrupt official. I live in an area where everyone knows each other, that is why I paid, I was ashamed. "

Answering the prosecutor's question, to whom he was transferring the money, the victim replied that each time he gave the money to the defendant personally. On the judge's question whether the damage was paid to him, the victim replied in the negative, but noted that he had no complaints. Veliyev's lawyers, in turn, provided the court with Manafov's assurance of a no-claim attested by the notary public.

The victim Tofig Sadigov noted that Veliyev called him in February 2011 and stated that he had information about his criminal actions. "He demanded 1500 manat, I met and paid 500. After that he insistently called, but I did not take the phone. Then calls and calls ceased.

Further, Sadigov said that the money was returned to him and he submitted a statement to the court about this. However, the court refused to accept the application, since it was not certified by a notary.

Then the judge announced that there were still eight more victims to be questioned at the next trial, which is scheduled for January 18. -0-
