Baku/02.04.21/Turan: On April 4, the trial of the activist of the Popular Front Party Niyameddin Ahmedov, who is the bodyguard of the leader of this opposition organization Ali Karimli, continued in the Baku Grave Crimes Court. At today's meeting, it was planned to hear two witnesses, but only one appeared.
At the end of the meeting, the lawyer Zibeyda Sadigova told Turan that the defense put forward a number of motions during the trial. In particular, to request from the prosecutor's office and other bodies a number of documents that are important for the investigation. In particular, documents that appear in the indictment, but they themselves are not in the case file.
The judge left the petition without consideration, stating that he would express his attitude on this issue at the stage of announcing the documents. The lawyer also petitioned to oblige the Baku Pre-Trial Detentions Center-1 to ensure the right of Ahmedov to telephone conversations. However, the court did not satisfy the request.
The activist's father said that over the past year after his arrest, his son was never allowed to speak on the phone. The next hearing is scheduled for April 9.
