At the trial of a member of the Muslim Unity Movement
Baku/21.04.23/Turan: The Baku Serious Crimes Court held a hearing on April 19 to determine the fate of Mirtofig Huseynov, a member of the Muslim Unity Movement who has been accused of selling a large amount of narcotic vehicles. According to the public prosecutor, Huseynov has been charged with drug trafficking. However, his lawyer, Zibeyda Sadigova, stated that her client did not plead guilty to the charges.
Huseynov's father, Mirjalal Huseynov, claimed that he received a call from an unknown number after his son was arrested. The caller asked if his son prayed and if he was Shiite. He responded in the affirmative to both questions. "If my son was caught on drugs, why was I called and asked these questions?" he questioned.
Relatives of other arrested believers showed up at the court to express their support. These individuals were apprehended under the guise of selling drugs on a large scale and were later portrayed as "Iranian spies" in the media.
The families of the accused have refuted these allegations and have demanded proof. "My brother was a renter. When he was arrested, he had 20 kopecks and three cigarettes. How is it possible that he is being accused of selling drugs in large quantities?" asked Arzu Abdullayeva, the sister of Murad Abdullayev, another arrested believer.
The hearing was postponed to April 27. In recent months, dozens of believers have been arrested under similar circumstances. They were arrested under the guise of being "Iranian spies," but later charged with drug trafficking.

The Rome Institute of European Design (IED) has granted a full tuition waiver to Azerin Gasymly, a third-year student and daughter of Azerbaijani political activist Azer Gasymly, who is currently detained on charges of extortion. The institute’s decision follows an appeal from Gasymly’s family, citing financial hardship due to her father's imprisonment, which they claim is politically motivated.
