Authorities Begin to Arrest Oppositionists Detained in Alley of Martyrs on January 20
Baku / 01.21.19 / Turan: During a visit to the Alley of Martyrs on January 20, more than 20 supporters of the National Council were detained. Of these, 9 were taken to the courts on January 21.
According to the Popular Front Party, the Yasamal court has already punished members of this organization: Ramin Ahmedov and Amil Mamedzadeh were fined at 200 manat, and Hasanali Bakhshaliyev was arrested for 10 days.
Non-party activists Ilgar Guliyev, Israfil Alekperzadeh, Choshgun Jafarov and another person, whose name has not yet been clarified, were also taken to the Yasamal District Court.
PFPA activists Ayaz Maharramov and Tofig Mammadov were brought to the Nasimi district court.
There is no information about the PFPA members Rashid Turabov, Suleiman Maharramov, and Faig Nagiyev.
At the same time, the activists released the day before were again summoned to the police.
In turn, the head of the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ehsan Zahidov, said that on January 19 after the opposition rally, a group of people "had left the stadium and tried to disturb public order."
According to Zahidov, on January 20, during a visit to the Alley of Martyrs, a group of individuals grossly violated public order and was detained. During the investigation, it turned out that these were the same people who violated public order after the opposition rally, Zahidov said.
