Avaz Zeynally transferred from state security service to penitentiary service detention centre
Baku/31.01.23/Turan: The wife of the arrested founder of the xural.com website Avaz Zeynally, Malahat Gisuri held another protest action in front of the investigation department of the Prosecutor General's Office on 31 January.
She demanded to cancel the ban on Zeynally's phone calls from the pre-trial detention centre and visits with relatives, return of office equipment seized during the search of their home, as well as money meant to pay for education of the family's children.
Besides, Gisuri demanded that conditions be created for the journalist to undergo cataract surgery. Gisuri voiced the same demands today.
After the action, she was invited to the next office - deputy head of the prosecutor's office, Gasym Mammadov.
After leaving the prosecutor's office Gisuri told Turan that today her husband will be transported from the detention facility of the state security service to Baku detention centre of the penitentiary service, and tomorrow she will be able to meet him there.
Also, Gisuri will be able to receive her computer, dictaphone and mobile phone tomorrow. However, no money return issue has been resolved.
"The money is compensation to Avaz Zeynally awarded on the basis of the ECHR judgment. However, the prosecutor's office says you received the money in April and should have spent it by September. The argument is tenuous, to say the least. We are managing the family budget ourselves and have kept the money to pay for our children's education," said Gisuri.
As for the eye surgery, the prosecutor's office said the matter was not within the agency's jurisdiction. With that end in view, Gisuri intends to apply to the prison service. An application has also been filed to place Zeynally under house arrest.
* Lawyer Elchin Sadygov and Khural TV website founder Avaz Zeynally were detained on 10 September on suspicion of taking a bribe, and the court arrested both on 11 September.
On 17 September, the Baku Court of Appeal transferred Sadygov to house arrest.
Later, Zeynally was charged again under Article 312-1.1 (Illegal influence on the decision of an official (trading in authority) of the Criminal Code. On 29 December, Zeynalli's arrest was extended for 3 months. -21C30/06-
