Baku/12.08.21/Turan: Azerbaijani citizen Turan Nasirzade disappeared on a dry cargo ship ONEY-Z in the Black Sea. A 23-year-old Nasirzadeh, went to sea on the ONEY-Z vessel as a cadet in accordance with the contract signed on May 18, 2021 with ONEY Shipping Company.

His father, Teymur Nasirzade, a current naval officer, told Turan agency that a representative of the company, a Turkish citizen named Mehmet, called on August 7 at around 5 pm and said that during a storm Turan fell overboard and drowned. According to a company representative, the incident occurred on August 7 at 09:40 am Istanbul time. It was also reported that the ship's captain immediately sent an SOS signal. However, as Teymur Nasirzade told the agency, he has precise information that the SOS signal was sent at 13:51 Istanbul time.

Turan agency got acquainted with the weather forecast for August 7.In the area where the ship was located, a moderate north wind was blowing with a force of no more than 3 points. This is far from being a storm.

The testimony of a member of the ONYE-Z team, sailor Khalil Mammadov, looks contradictory. “He informed me that Turan went to the bow of the ship, returning to crouch to tie a lace on his boot, lost consciousness and fell overboard. He stayed on the water for about fifteen minutes and then disappeared,” T.Nasirzade said.

“I asked why no help was provided? How could he fall overboard with a bulwark (outer deck railing). The answer was that it was dark and foggy. But if it was dark and foggy, then how could Mammadov observe Turan for 15 minutes,” asks Nasirzade.

He also said that during the passage of the ship through the Bosphorus, it was detained in Istanbul and testimony was taken from the crew. No lawsuit has been filed due to the incident in international waters.

“My son told me that the ship's staff consists of 13 crew members, but in reality there were 8 people,” Nasirzade said.

Considering that a cadet is a trainee on a ship, his actions and working hours according to the requirements of the maritime administration are limited in comparison with full-fledged crew members. However, the limited composition of the team increases the likelihood of a violation of labor rules, which was the result of an emergency.

In connection with the incident, Teymur Nasirzadeh appealed for help to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan, the International Maritime Organization.

ONEY Shipping Company is registered in the Seychelles and the ONEY-Z is a Panamanian flag carrier.

By 15:30 Baku time the vessel was in the port of TUZLA ANCH, TR in the Sea of Marmara.
