Bakhtiyar Hajiyev complains that the administration od the pre-trial detention center is confiscating his personal correspondence
Baku/06.02.23/Turan: Human rights activist Bakhtiyar Hajiyev has been on hunger strike for 29 days in Baku pre-trial detention center-1. On February 6, lawyers Nemat Karimli and Rovshan Rahimli visited him in the pre-trial detention center.
He is weak and turned yellow, there are black circles under his eyes. During the 29 days of the hunger strike, Bakhtiyar lost 14.5 kg and now weighs 70 kg, lawyer Rovshan Rahimli said. He is in the medical unit of the Detention Center. The Penitentiary Service did not respond to the lawyers' request to transfer Hajiyev to a medical institution of the Penitentiary Service. “He insists on continuing the hunger strike. We are trying not to let him die of hunger," the lawyer said.
The public relations department of the Penitentiary Service told Turan that Bakhtiyar Hajiyev is under medical supervision, there is no danger to his life.
Bakhtiyar Hajiyev appealed to the Ombudswoman through his lawyers and complained that his right to personal correspondence was violated in the pre-trial detention center. So, his appeals to relatives, colleagues, diplomats and the public are taken away from lawyers. “This personal correspondence is not related to the investigation of the criminal case against me. However, employees of the Main Police Department of Baku city took pictures of me when I left the courtroom and provoked me, saying that they would send them everywhere,” the appeal says.
The ombudsman's office did not respond to Bakhtiyar Hajiyev's appeal.

In 2017, the Sumgayit City Court ruled to evict the Aliyev family—refugees from Gubadli (Akper, Sarvinaz, Ramil, and two other family members)—from an illegally occupied apartment in the 12th microdistrict, Building 7A, Apartment 35. The court ordered the property be returned to its rightful owner, Samaya Aliyeva. However, the Ministry of Justice intervened, citing a presidential decree from July 1, 2004, which approved a state program for improving the living and working conditions of refugees. Under this directive, refugees without alternative housing cannot be evicted until they are provided with a replacement residence by the Executive Authority.
