Bakhtiyar Hajiyev's prison term was extended
Baku/21.01.23/Turan: On January 21, the Khatai District Court heard a presentation regarding the extension of the pretrial detention measure selected for Bakhtiyar Hajiyev.
The court was provided with a presentation on the continuation of the pretrial detention measure. According to the decision, the prison term of Bakhtiyar Hajiyev was extended until February 28, 2023.
Lawyer Nemet Karimli said that an appeal will be filed against the decision.
"Bakhtiyar unequivocally states that his arrest is related to his political activities. He noted that he was active in the protection of human rights in Azerbaijan. He emphasized that the judge studied human rights in Europe and advised him to respect what he had studied and make the right decision. However, the court did not grant our request," said Karimli.
* Bakhtiyar Hajiyev was detained on December 9 on charges of hooliganism and contempt of court. On the same day, the Khatai District Court arrested him for 1 month and 20 days.
On December 15, Hajiyev went on a hunger strike demanding his release from custody. On the evening of December 28, he ended his hunger strike after persistent appeals from the public figures and his family. However, on January 9, Hajiyev resumed his hunger strike, after the appeal court once again rejected his complaint about the arrest. -03B06-
