Baku Executive Power Accuses Azersu of Flooding
Baku / 24.09.18 / Turan: The Baku Executive Power laid the blame for the floods on the central streets of the city on Sunday at JSC Azersu.
According to the press service of the EP on Monday, a large amount of rainfall caused the flooding of streets and avenues of the city, and the basements of buildings.
For 40 minutes in Baku, 21 mm of precipitation fell (122% of the monthly norm). In the Narimanov district of the capital, this figure reached 191%.
The City Executive Power, employees of Azersu and the Ministry of Emergency Measures took measures to eliminate the consequences of rain. As soon as the downpour stopped, the water from the central territories was pumped out, and the streets were cleared of mud and debris.
At the same time, the floods were caused, in addition to natural, by a number of technical reasons - in particular, the large number of high-rise buildings erected in recent years, the report says.
On the other hand, collectors of Azersu (operator of water distribution and sewerage system) were not able to take a large volume of water.
An additional problem was the later opening of evacuation lines for the transportation of rainwater in the reservoir along the Neftchilar Avenue. To avoid such cases in the future, Azersu should make new calculations on the capacity of the collectors and take additional measures, the report said. -06D--
