Criminal Case Launched in Connection with Events around Azerbaijani Parliament
Baku / 15.07.20 / Turan: A criminal case has been launched in connection with the night events around the Milli Majlis, a joint statement by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan said.
The press release said that during the rally in support of the army, "a group of provocateurs grossly violated public order, used force and resisted police officers." As a result, several policemen received various injuries, official cars were damaged. For this reason, measures were taken to suppress the disturbances in public order. A criminal case has been instituted on the fact, and investigative and operational measures are being conducted, the press release said.
The report did not say how many people were detained and what articles of the Criminal Code are being investigated, and how many police officers were injured.
At the same time, law enforcement agencies recall that holding mass meetings in cities and areas during the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic can lead to serious consequences. “We urge citizens to remain calm, and to honor the memory of our martyrs, taking into account the requirements of existing quarantine rules,” the press release concludes.
Recall that in the course of the rally in support of the army, a group of people, after criticism of the leadership of the Ministry of Defense, burst into the parliament building, demanding the announcement of a general mobilization.
