Cultural Figures Call for Release of Arrested Participants of March on July 14-15
Baku / 30.07.20 / Turan: Dozens of writers and artists of Azerbaijan issued a statement condemning the repressions against the participants in the "Karabakh march" on July 14-15.
The authors of the statement called on the public, culture, literature, art and science not to remain indifferent to this injustice.
“Today, the country needs first of all solidarity. Let's unite so that our voices sound loud,” the statement said.
Tens of thousands of people took to the streets to protest against the military provocation and aggression of Armenia in Tovuz. However, some groups staged a provocation, casting a shadow over this patriotic action. It could be expected that the hooligans would be punished administratively.
“However, contrary to expectations, severe repressions began against the innocent protesters. People were arrested under grave articles without any reason,” the statement said.
Among those arrested there are well-known persons whose participation in provocations is excluded. One of them is a veteran of the Karabakh war, poet Manaf Karimov.
“We believe in his innocence, like dozens of other arrested patriots. Unfortunately, the arrests continue and today this patriotic action has turned into a campaign of political revenge,” the statement said.
Such harsh measures only deepen hatred and confrontation in society.
“We call for the release of the innocent arrested persons and an objective investigation,” reads the conclusion of the appeal, which has been signed by 79 people. The appeal is open for signing. -03B06-

At 16 meters long, the creature’s seemingly lifeless form and pungent odor left many convinced they were witnessing an ecological tragedy. By that night, however, the mysterious visitor had departed, loaded onto a cargo platform and whisked away to the airport.
