Baku/01.06.20/Turan: Azerbaijani customs officers prevented an attempt to smuggle a large consignment of drugs sent from Iran to Austria in transit through Azerbaijan.

The State Customs Committee informed that heroin was found in two trucks transporting dried fruits.

The trucks were driven by Iranian citizens - Mirzay Akbar Parviz and Abdel Ramin Maskhatli, they were detained at the Bilasuvar customs post.

When checking the trucks with x-rays, customs officers noticed that the fuel tanks were divided into two parts and  there were some objects. Cans with liquid heroin, with a total weight of more than 281 kg were found in the   tanks.

Both drivers were detained and charged under Articles 206.3.2 (smuggling), 234.4.1 and 234.4.3 (large-scale drug trafficking) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. — 1606D-
