On March 29, in the district court of the Siyazan district, the judge Elman Akhmedov sentenced 11 residents of the district for participating in protests in January 2016 against rising prices. All the defendants were found guilty and sentenced to imprisonment from 4 to 6 years, Turan was told in the district court.
The trial was held without the participation of public activists and the press, and there was no information on it on the website of the Siazan and Guba trials (the judge represented the neighboring Guba region.)
On January 12, 2016, hundreds of residents of Siyazan went to street protests in connection with a rise in price of flour. They demanded not to raise the price of bread and flour. After the promise of the chief executive to fulfill this demand, the people dispersed. However, by midnight, some of the protesters were detained by the police.
The next day, people again went out to the streets demanding to release the detainees. In the clashes with the police, 55 people were detained, and 11 of them were prosecuted for using violence against the police and damaging the health of law enforcement officers.-03B-
