Family of political prisoner claims discrimination
Baku/28.08.19/Turan: Ahad Hasanov, son of Babek Hasanov, the convicted activist of the Popular Front Party Political Party, is discriminated in Baku State University, where he entered the Geological Faculty this year.
According to his mother, Ahad has the right to free education, as the son of a disabled Karabakh war. "At BSU, we need several documents: a certificate of disability, a veteran certificate and a special certificate from the military enlistment office. However, a veteran ID was seized during a search of the house.
In 2012, Babek Hasanov was issued a perpetual disability certificate, but the university does not accept it. The lawyer of the university says that in 2015 the form of disability certificates changed. Since my husband is under arrest, we cannot bring a certificate and a document from the military enlistment office. Therefore, we were forced to pay for studies for 1 year. This is open discrimination," said Ilaha Hasanova.
Education expert Kamran Asadov, in turn, noted that according to the order of the President of Azerbaijan dated March 2014, tuition fees (undergraduate and magistrate) for children of people who died, became disabled or went missing while protecting the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan are funded state budget account.
Babek Hasanov, he was arrested in May last year in the case of "illegal" financing of the Popular Front Party. The court sentenced him to three years in prison. He is recognized as a political prisoner. -21B06-
